POETRY - "Pretty Ugly"

"Pretty Ugly"

It’s what happened when
You were younger and
You thought you were
So unattractive
That you asked-
“Why don’t boys think I’m pretty
Instead of saying how nice I am?”

But then you grew up…

Now boys do think you’re cute
Very, very cute
So you start doing that coy little hard to get thing
And they keep coming
And you keep running

now you find yourself asking
“Why can’t they notice me as a person
and not just a pretty face?”
